Tony Alonso remembers life as a young Cuban political refugee as he strives to increase the minority enrollment in higher education at Tulsa Community College.

Alonso, Dean of Diversity and Civic Engagement at Tulsa Community College, will present the award-winning program “Day of Vision,” A college preparation enrichment program for multicultural youth, November 15, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus, 3727 East Apache. The program received NAACP recognition as the model education program.
The goals of the program are:

•    To familiarize students with college life.
•    To assist in the development of skills which will enhance the chances of succeeding in college.
•    To explore careers.
•    To explore funding opportunities for attending college.

Jan Clayton, Vice President Student Services, states, “This year’s attendance is expected to surpass last years due to the great response of parents also attending.” This year’s highlights include, Parent Workshops regarding college financial aid and information concerning the “Tulsa Achieves” program.
Justin Zeigler and Josh Clemons, TCC Student Association Officers, will be presenting a panel discussion on “What High Students Need to Know about College”.
There is no charge for this program and lunch is included.
