The 1920’s Harlem Renaissance was a time that ushered in a rebirth where artists, writers and intellectuals used their talents for achieving equality and civil rights. This time established a new era of American culture and politics.
On Saturday night, November 11, 2017, the Tulsa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and their guests celebrated that era of rebirth with their annual “Paint the Town Red Scholarship Benefit” with the theme of Harlem Renaissance: 1920’s Glam.
This event hosted over 250 people to raise funds for youth in our community to help them achieve their educational goals. There was live entertainment provided by Marcus James, II and Company, plated dinner and a raffle. The Tulsa Alumnae Chapter would like to thank its sponsors and donors for their contributions to help make this event possible: Alpha Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc., Mayor G.T. Bynum, The Mayo Hotel, Oral Roberts University, Decopolis, Kendra Scott, James E. McNellie’s, Tours of Tulsa, Montecella “Cindy” Driver, Gwen Taylor, owner of the Quilter’s Hangout, and Joyce G. Smith Williams.
“This event brings people for a common purpose of giving back to the youth of our community. We thank all who attended, and appreciate the support of our sponsors and donors who helped raise over $10,000,” stated Chapter President, Sandra Quince.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.
Tulsa Alumnae Chapter plans to host the event again on November 10, 2018.
