When Fresno State visits the Rose Bowl this September, there will be a familiar face cheering on the Bulldogs.

That’s because Terry Tumey is the Fresno State Bulldogs’ new Athletic Director.

Tumey heads to Fresno State after having been the AD at Division III Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Colleges since 2016. Prior to joining CMS, Tumey spent three years at UC Davis as the Aggies’ AD. Tumey also spent time at Division II Dominican College in the same position.

Before becoming the AD at Dominican, Tumey spent eight years in the front office of the San Francisco 49ers from 2001 to 2009. He also spent two seasons (1999-2000) as a Denver Broncos defensive line assistant under Mike Shanahan. He was the UCLA defensive line coach from 1995 to 1998 under coaches Terry Donahue and Bob Toledo.

Tumey earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at UCLA in 1988 and went to work in the private sector. He earned his MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business in 1993.

Tumey was a three-time All-Pac-10 First Team selection at nose guard. In his freshman season with the UCLA Bruins, Tumey sacked Miami quarterback Bernie Kosar and forced him to fumble with less than 31 seconds to go in the 1985 Fiesta Bowl to help preserve a 39-37 Bruin victory.

Here’s the last minute of the game from YouTube:

Congratulations to Terry on the new position!

While Bruin fans will be rooting for you to succeed, please understand that, on September 15th, we will be rooting for your new school’s football team to fall to our beloved Bruins.
