The historic Mount Zion Baptist Church located at 419 N Elgin Avenue has been named to the National Register of Historic Places as of September 5, 2008. The National Register is the Federal Government’s official list of historic properties worthy of preservation. Listing in the National Register provides recognition and assists in preserving our nation’s heritage.
The church is also listed in the State Register of Historic Places. Ruby Givens, Trustee of Mount Zion, chaired the committee to secure the designation with Thelma Harding, Renee Peters, Ralph Williams and the full support of the Mount Zion church family.
